Tips for Success from Sheryl Sandberg

Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to the LeanIn.org lunch and fireside chat with Sheryl Sandberg. She was in town to meet with Facebook and the Prime Minister, and kindly squeezed our group in-between. Granted, our group was founded by her, so it makes sense that she would make time to check in and share her vision for it.

Some of the key take-aways were:

1) Figure out what success looks like for you, and make concrete steps toward achieving that. Have other people regularly hold you accountable to make sure that you are acting to make your dreams a reality.

2) Although this is a women's group, enlist men also, to be your mentors, supportive peers and other roles that you need to support your success.

3) Don't count yourself out for things (promotions, jobs, other opportunities) before you've even tried. You never know what might be possible, even if you initially think that you can't fit something into your life.

All in all, it was a good wake-up call to remember what your goals are, and find ways, however small each day, to make them happen.
